BIOPHILIA AND SPACES

Image
As we now know, Biophilic design is an art and science to incorporate nature into the built environment. We humans are evolved from nature and are sensitive to it. Each and every activity that is taking place around us affects us in some or the other way. In the previous three blogs we understood how to design a space using biophilic patterns, but the question is why do we need more of biophilic designs in a built environment? This blog will provide some perspective on biophilia and its importance to human well- being. We are a part of nature and in order to stay healthy physically and mentally, we have to stay connected with nature. Humans travel  from one built environment to another. The built environment includes all the spaces occupied by a human for some functional purpose such as residences, workspaces, childhood spaces, hospitals and so on. We are focusing on such spaces where a person has to spend a lot of time for a purpose and not on the spaces we occasionally visit

CONTAINER HOSPITAL FOR COVID 19 IN OPEN SPACE

Image
The world today is suffering from a virus COVID-19 and every person is doing whatever they can to break the chain but is it really enough? The only solution is to make the worst assumptions and take appropriate measures to control it before it gets real.  Our second attempt to help the human kind is to make use of the shipping containers. The idea is to make isolation wards facility inside a container. These containers can be assembled in any open space. The proposed isolation treatment layout is for infected patients in critical conditions and infected patients with mild symptoms, with various other provisions needed for the safety of doctors and nurses and facilities for them in order to control the spread of the virus. The drawings shown below are actual to scale drawings that can be used to create these facilities. The separation of the critical from the suspected or confirmed patients with minimum symptoms is important for their faster recovery. Keep

What makes Interiors - Interesting!

In our daily life, there are so many things that surround us, but we hardly pay attention to them because either we are late for our work or we have a train to hop on to or we have to catch a running bus and so many other things that we have to focus on. Our a attention is scattered in multiple directions           If attention is put on one thing at a time there is nothing that cannot be achieved. We need to pay attention to details in all actions we perform in life, when we have that undivided attention and focus we understand the whole as it is. The devil is in the detail, find and eliminate all that is unnecessary in the design. When you take deeper interest in it, you find it unravels itself, you SEE it. It becomes INTERESTING ! It is all about attention to detail . This ideology is vastly applied in Design, for example, when we look at a furniture item and say WOW , it comes only when we are seeing the outer appearance of the furniture, but when you spend a little

NATURE OF THE SPACE

Image
As the heading suggests - Nature of the Space, it refers to the nature of spatial configurations. We always have a desire to see and learn something new which enriches us. We always try to see beyond our perceptible limits. We are always fascinated by the unpredictable quality of nature, its patternless expression. Nature of the space includes our innate and learned desire to be able to see beyond our immediate surroundings. It also includes our fascination with the slightly unknown obscured views with its sense of danger. The strongest Nature of the Space experiences are achieved through the creation of deliberate and engaging spatial configurations commingled with patterns of Nature in the Space and Natural Analogues. This particular category includes 4 patterns of biophilic design and they are as follows: Prospect : This pattern usually overlaps the very first pattern that is visual connection with nature. Prospect is an uninterrupted view over a distance for survei

Nature Analogues

Biophilic design patterns can be used as a tool for improving health and well-being in the built environment. In the previous blog, we discussed about Nature in the Space and its 7 patterns which contribute to biophilic design. In this blog we will see the second category that is Nature Analogues. Nature analogues:             Nature in the space addresses untreated, non living and indirect traces of nature. What can you use as an inspiration from nature for designing an artwork or a furniture item? There are unlimited things which can be used such as objects, materials, shapes, color, texture, patterns, sequences found in nature and by all these coming together in different combinations invent useful items as artworks, ornamentation, furniture, decor textiles in the built environment. For example- Mimicking the shape of a leaf as a dining tabletop. Mimicking the shape of a shell as an artwork, using natural materials that have been processed or extensively altered. By

The world today is handcuffed by a virus that has a diameter of 120 NM and the only thing we can do is sit at our own houses and wait for it to ring our doorbells. The current situation in every country is very crucial. Even the countries with the best health care have become slaves to this novel virus. The only solution is to take appropriate measures and precautions as an individual and also as a member of the society. The countries which are still at a better situation can take lessons from the experienced countries and be prepared for what’s coming. The problem is that we are still not taking it seriously and thinking it is not going to reach us, that’s where we are wrong. Till December, it was only in China but in 3 months, it became a global pandemic . Talking about precautionary measures, on an individual level we can practice social distancing by staying at our respective homes, but as a part of this society we can help the world by social networking by spreadin
